Population of North Korea official at 24 million

North Korea's population has been found to be around 24 million, as of October of last year.

According to the country's state-run news agency, the figure was officially announced at a national conference in Pyongyang, attended by key officials including Jerome Sauvage, the representative of the United Nations Development Programme in North Korea.

A nationwide census was carried out for 15 days in October 2008, sponsored by the
UN Population Fund.
