China is reported to have forcibly repatriated a total of 4,809 North Korean escapees in 2002.A researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences disclosed his findings in a paper written for a college journal.
This paper reinforces claims by U.S. and Korean human rights activists that around 5000 North Korean escapees are send back to the communist state by Beijing against their will each year.
