According to the country's state-run news agency, the figure was officially announced at a national conference in Pyongyang, attended by key officials including Jerome Sauvage, the representative of the United Nations Development Programme in North Korea.
A nationwide census was carried out for 15 days in October 2008, sponsored by the UN Population Fund.

Population of North Korea official at 24 million
North Korea's population has been found to be around 24 million, as of October of last year.
